Mr Stratton

I have been teaching since 2002 across a variety of schools in Norfolk and am excited to join the Greyfriars team. I am leading PSHE across the school as well as teaching my Year 5 class. In Wells class we make the most of every learning opportunity and strive be the best we can in everything we do. Outside of school, I enjoy reading, walking, watching football (I’m a keen Norwich fan!) and spending time with my family.

Parent Survey ~ Please complete

Posted on Thursday, July 23rd, 2020

We would like to have a clear understanding of the impact of COVID-19 on our families so that we can prepare to support all children effectively on their return to school.

A number of parents have also indicated that they would welcome Keyworker childcare for Friday afternoons from 12pm to 3:15pm (after school club will be available from 3.15pm to 5pm).

We will use the survey below to collate this information. It is very important that if you need Keyworker childcare on Friday afternoons, that you indicate this on the survey and include the names of all of the children for whom this is required. Please could you ensure this is completed by 30.07.20.

Please note breakfast and after school club will initially only be open for keyworker children, we will be reviewing this during the autumn term. Evidence of keyworker status will be required to be furnished.

Wells Class – Friday Blog 17-7-20

Posted on Friday, July 17th, 2020

Hello Wells Class,

Thank you to those of you who have sent me in work for this week – it’s great to see what you have been learning at home or in your bubble at school.

Theo has been busy learning about Capillary action (how blood moves in our bodies) and done an experiment for it. Well done, Theo!

Pear has been busy doing her work from the Home Learning Grid in the bubble group at school. She created ‘Pearl Island’ as part of our short unit in Topic, worked hard on her maths problems involving decimals and also on her optical illusion artwork. Well done, Pearl!

Emilijus was rightly proud of his optical illusion artwork drawing his hand and giving it a 3-D effect. Well done, Emilijus!

Finally, a big thank you to all of your parents who have been working hard to home-school you since the start of lockdown whilst trying to do all of the other jobs you have to do too. It is much appreciated and thank you so much.

Reports and Next Year’s Classes

Posted on Monday, July 13th, 2020

Good morning everyone!

Usually, at this time of the year, we would be writing to you with your child’s annual report along with information about your child’s class for next year. As with everything else at the moment, this year is a little different. We thank you for your patience.

Please make sure you check your inbox as over the course of this week, as we will be emailing you a copy of your child’s report, along with information about their class for next year and who their teacher will be.

We appreciate that the transition from one class to another can be challenging for some children, please be reassured that we will make sure your child has the opportunity to get to know their new class and teacher in September.

Please make sure that you check our school website regularly for information and details for September. We have added a new section to our website, Phoenix Rising. Over the next couple of weeks this section will grow and in time, you will be able to find all the information you will need for September, along with suggestions for supporting your child.

Wells Class – Home Learning Grid 13-7-20

Posted on Monday, July 13th, 2020

Hello Wells Class,

I hope you have had a good weekend and have been able to get outside in the sunshine. What have you been doing? I have been to the beach at Old Hunstanton and also walking in the local woods.

Please find this weeks Home Learning Grid (HLG) here: Years 5 and 6 13-7-20

In English, we will continue to use the ‘Cave of Curiosity’ and the ‘City of Silences’ poems to structure our work – this week we will use our ideas to draft and then edit our own poem. The poems can be found here: The Cave of Curiosity In the City of Silences

You may also like to do some Short Burst Writing using this picture from Pobble 365 to inspire you: Bonus Literacy

For spellings, please choose 10 from either the Y3-4 or Y5-6 spellings mats to learn using Look/Cover/Write/Spell/Check and then test on Friday. Copies of these spelling mats are here: Y3-4 Statutory spellings mat     Y5-6 Statutory spellings mat

In Maths, we will complete Unit 15 (Position and Direction) and then move onto Unit 16 L1-3 which is about converting units of measure. Remember to use your Tackling Tables login to keep learning your multiplication tables.

For Topic, Art and Science we will do a short unit based on you creating your own island, designing a flag and a habitat with animals that live there.

In PE, you might like to do Just Dance on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChIjW4BWKLqpojTrS_tX0mg     OR, you might enjoy Cosmic Kids Yoga (also on Youtube): https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga

Remember to use Education City to do the weekly tasks that are set and you can also challenge your friends to games on here e.g spelling, X tables. Also, if you have a login to Lexia then you can use this to help your spellings and reading skills.

Finally, please remember to email me with photos of your learning for the week by Friday so that I can see what you have been doing and share it with your class mates on this blog.

Take care and stay safe,

Mr Stratton

Wells Class – Friday Blog 10-7-20

Posted on Friday, July 10th, 2020

Hello Wells Class,

I hope that you are well and have been enjoying the Home Learning Grid activities this week. My Bubble really enjoyed the optical illusion artwork and using the Midnight Castle picture to do some Short Burst Writing.

Thank you to all of you who have sent me your work in – it’s great to see what you have been learning at home, including work and skills which are additional to the Home Learning Grid.

Emilijus has been busy with his Power Maths and learning how to add & subtract decimals using the column method. Well done, Emilijus – some great work here!

Pearl has been busy with her Short Burst Writing based on the Midnight Castle and Optical Illusion artwork. Some interesting vocabulary in your writing, Pearl, as well as following the stages of the artwork very carefully. Well done!

Theo has also been busy creating a Nebula, painting his Warhammer figures and making a home made lava lamp! Some great pictures and learning here, Theo – well done!

Thank you to all of you who have sent me your work in – I really enjoy seeing the skills you have been learning at home. Please email me your photos by Friday so that I can share them on the blog with your class mates.

Have a good weekend – take care and stay safe,

Mr Stratton

Wells Class – Monday Blog 6-7-20

Posted on Monday, July 6th, 2020

Hello Wells Class,

I hope you are keeping well and have enjoyed the weekend. What have you been doing? I’ve been busy gardening, doing DIY and going for walks in the local woods.

Please find the new Home Learning Grid (HLG) for this week here: Years 5 and 6 6.7.20

For English, we will use ‘The Cave of Curiosity’ and  ‘In the City of Silences’ poems: In the City of Silences

The Cave of Curiosity as a focus for the week to create combinations of a place eg city with an abstract noun (something you can feel and exists but you can’t see it) eg curiosity. There is also an extend the sentences sheet to help you with your ideas: Sentences to expand

You might also want to use this resource from Pobble 365 to do some Short Burst Writing: 341_Castle_Midnight   I will be using it with my Bubble Group and it would be great to see some of your writing too.

For your spellings, please use the Y3-4 spelling mat Y3-4 Statutory spellings mat or Y5-6 spellings mat Y5-6 Statutory spellings mat to pick 10 spellings to learn during the week using Look/Cover/Spell/Write/Check instead of the spelling lesson for Thursday on the HLG.

For Maths, we will finish Unit 14 and reasoning about 3-D shapes before moving onto Unit 15 L1-3 which is all about reflection, co-ordinates and translation of shapes. Remember, to use your Tackling Tables login to keep your multiplication and division skills sharp.

In Topic, we are looking at if Pirates still exist today and there is some information about this on the HLG. A website I have found useful is: https://kids.kiddle.co/Piracy

In Art, we will continue with our work about optical illusions and in Science please continue with your Powerpoint/Google slides presentation on Endangered animals. Mrs Harris has done an example to help you with your ideas here: Polar Bears Week 5

For PE, there are a selection of activities and there are also the Joe Wicks PE workouts on a Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. You can also access all the previous PE sessions on his YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ

Please remember to use Education City for the activities you have been set and you can also challenge each other to spellings or multiplication tables games. If you have access to Lexia then please use this to help you with your spellings and reading skills.

Remember to email me with your work and learning from the week by Friday so I can celebrate and share it on the website. This can be work from the Home Learning Grid as well as other skills you have been learning at home eg gardening, baking.

Finally, take care and stay safe.
