Hello Sheringham!

Welcome to week 1 of spring 2. Hope you all had a lovely half-term.

The most exciting news is that we hope to be starting our Live Teaching! This first meeting is going to be a test to look at how we can use Teams in the future. It would be great if as many children could join as possible, initially for a chat and story. Looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30pm. I am hoping that we will also be able to do some live Maths lessons later in the week.

I hope that you are working your way through the lessons and activities suggested. Don’t hesitate to email and let me know if you need anything to support your learning. Today we are doing our last lesson on Money, in our Power Maths book. As so many of you have now got your Maths books, it would be great to see you following the same work at home. We are doing lesson 5  in class, Money Problem Solving, pages 84-87

Spellings –

Can you include these words in sentences, using your best handwriting, make sure your letter formation is correct when writing your spellings?

 

English – This half term we will be focussing on stories where the character changes during the story. Do you know of any stories like this?   When we are writing these stories it is important to describe our characters so the reader can imagine what they are like.

Look at the piece of writing describing Harry Potter. Highlight all the adjectives in the text. Read also what we need to include, shown below.

 

Look at the picture of Cinderella. Write all the words we could use to describe her.  Using these words, write a paragraph to describe Cinderella.

Tuesday – 

Maths – Keep going over your times tables (see Monday)

Today in class we are doing our end of unit check and going over anything we were unsure of about money. As so many of you have now got your Maths books, it would be great to see you following the same work at home: pages 88-89.

Spellings – use the look, cover, write, check method to practice your spellings:

Dictionary Detective – use a dictionary to look up the definition of your words and record them.

 

English – Can you recall the parts of a character we can include to write a good character description? 

I would like you to list all the descriptive words you can around this picture and then write a paragraph to describe the character.

Look back on yesterday’s what we need to include picture, did you remember all the things from the list to describe your character?

Wednesday

Today in class we are starting a new unit and looking at Pictograms, pages 92-95. I am hoping that we can do this as a live lesson; I will keep you posted. As so many of you have now got your Maths books, it would be great to see you following the same work at home.

Write a silly sentence for each of your words.

 

English – Cold Task : This is where children have a go at writing a character change story with no input or ideas from adults or texts.

Please write a story where the main character changes. It might be that they change from poor to rich/lonely and sad to happy. Stress that something happens to the character along the way to change them. Remember Red Riding Hood meets a wolf. This could also be something magical.

Alphabetical order – write your spellings in alphabetical order from A-Z, then from Z-A.

 

English – Look at the model text  Lazy Joe Model Text . Can you spot how the  character changes?

Read through the text with your parent.As you work through the text highlight any words you don’t understand and write them down in a Glossary Now look the words up in a dictionary to make sure you understand word meanings and give the definitions of the words.

Science – What do you think nutrition is?  This term we will think about our food. What are the names of the main food groups. Carbohydrates, proteins, dairy, fats, fibre, vitamins and minerals. Can you look up these words in a dictionary to find out what they mean.  Watch this video and look at where examples of real foods would be placed on the plate activity below. What foods come in each food groups write a list for each of the 7 food groups names above.

Topic – Our new topic this half term is Dinosaurs.

In many ways dragons and dinosaurs are quite similar – what are the differences? The main difference is that dragons are fiction and dinosaurs were real!  We will be exploring and investigating how we know this during the next half term.

Complete the what I already know and what I would like to find out sheet and the topic cover sheet.  Then then write your most interesting question onto the dinosaur outlines for display.

Can you make a timeline about when the dinosaurs roam the earth, how many years ago was it and what was the name of each period. Show the three different periods and which dinosaurs could be found in each period. can you do this with pictures.

 

Computing – Last half term, we begun to look at programming and using code to help us programme games like Erase All Kittens and Minecraft.

This half term, we will be continuing with this but moving onto a new programme called Scratch which most of you should be familiar with at school!

Moses

Make a list of reasons for Moses to follow God’s will and get the slaves released and a list of reasons why Moses should just give up.

Pharaoh

Make a list of reasons why Pharaoh should let the slaves go and a list for why he should keep the Israelites as slaves.

Finally:

Why do you think Moses is important to Jewish people?

What do these stories teach Jewish people about God?

What can you learn from the Exodus stories about Moses?

 

D.T. – This half-term we are going to be making a healthy sandwich and considering the packaging. Some of our work will link to our previous Science work on  nutrition and healthy eating. 

What do you think we need to need to consider when making a sandwich? 

Make a list of your  favourite fillings.  Make a list of your favourite bread.

Questions you can begin to think about:

Who will my sandwich be designed for?

What will my sandwich be called?

What will my sandwich look like?

 

P.E – Make sure you get some fresh air! Why not go for a long walk or go on a short walk daily and time yourself each day can you get quicker on the walk? If you don’t want to walk, why not ride your bike or scooter, or have a go at these activities:
