Welcome Winterton to week beginning 8th February

Welcome to the second week of February!

We have more work to get through this week. Please make sure you send me your work daily where you can. It makes it so much easier to open each email, open each piece, save it and give you any feedback required. So many more of you are sending all your work in each day (at least maths, literacy, spelling or reading comprehension every day). Well done to you all. If you have a problem with anything, email me.

Just a reminder to complete your Education City work if you can, as it follows the work we are doing in literacy and maths. Also I am pleased to see many people are working on Tackling Tables and really improving their accuracy and speed.

Where can I find the Power Maths resources?

Both maths groups will need this link from now on.

The practice book and the text book are now available directly from the website:  www.activelearnprimary.co.uk/login?c=0  Click on ‘Log in’. Your username is your first name, plus the first letter of your surname – all lower case, no spaces. (For example, if your name was Sam Brown, your username would be samb). Your password is your class name, all lower case (winterton). School code: HCCT

I have included the presentation we will be using in class this week for literacy. You can view it here to see the whole week of literacy work in one presentation if you would rather. PP for Literacy

I have included the presentation we will be using in class this week. You can use this to see the whole week of literacy work in one week if you would rather.

Today we are going to read as a reader. You will need to complete a Tell Me Square. (Divide your page into 4 equal rectangles. In the top left rectangle write ‘Likes’; in the top right rectangle write ‘Dislikes’; bottom left write ‘Links’ – have you read or heard any other balanced arguments? If so what?; and finally bottom right rectangle ‘Questions’ – what would you like to ask the writer of this text about his writing (not about Daleks!)

When you have finished this, move onto your next piece of work which is to write out the points in 2 lists: 1 list of the points for letting Daleks live on Earth, and the other list against letting them live here. These points are to come from the text – not your opinions.

Spelling:

Scarlet spelling group:

interrupt, interfere, intercept, interject, intertwine, interim, internal, intersperse, interloper, interest

Here is your handwriting/spelling: Cursive Handwriting Practice Sheet

Here are your 2 activities: Word Search Black and White    Activity Sheet Mr Whoops Juggling Muddle

Red spelling group:

through, together, told, turned, until, upon, used, watched, while, whole.

Here is a word search for you to practise your spellings Red group wordsearch 08.02.21

(These are key words you need to know how to read AND spell.) Write them out for handwriting, put them into sentences for spelling and test yourself every day.

Topic:

Our key question this week is: How are British animals affected by global warming? In this lesson, you will find the answer to this question and will create poster There will be a focus on key vocabulary too.

There is one lesson presentation with tasks included on it. There are videos to watch and a fact sheet you will need (see link below).

Today you will reading as a writer. You will need to do your boxing up for ‘Should Daleks be Allowed to Live on Earth?’ I have attached a copy of this for you to use to check your work. Do not use it just to copy otherwise I have done the work and not you!

Music:

Create a signed song.

In previous weeks, we have studied how performers sign songs rhythmically with hands, bodies and expressions in order to communicate a message. This week, you will choose another song of your own and create signed movements of your own to effectively convey the message of the song. If you did one last week, that is very good experience that you can put into use today – getting better at it!

You can perform the song to an adult or sibling. Alternatively, ask an adult to film it and send it to me! I would love to see some.

Computing: Touch Typing

We are moving away from coding for a while due to some issues we have been having with the Scratch website. Instead, you will be able to brush up on your touch-typing skills – this will be invaluable as you move forward in your education. Typing at speed will really set you up well for all those assignments you’ll need to write in secondary school!

Go to this website: https://www.typingclub.com/

It’s an absolutely brilliant way of learning to touch type by having fun. I’ve tried it and really enjoyed it.

Today we will be identifying discursive sentence signposts (If you look at the powerpoint presentation. you will see there is a table for you to complete making this activity easier to follow)

Sort them into those that signal:

  • Introducing a point
  • Adding on more information
  • Introducing a different point of view
  • The conclusion

Imitate sentence patterns using examples from the text such as …

  • Since the arrival of the Daleks on this planet, there has been much discussion about whether or not they should be allowed to live on earth
  • Since the arrival of the new players to the team, there has been much discussion about whether or not the transfer fee was money well spent
  • Since the introduction of healthy eating to the school, there has been much discussion about whether or not it is a good idea etc

Construct a toolkit.  Toolkit for discursive texts

R.E.

In this lesson, we will be finishing our Philosophy unit by reflecting upon what you have learned over the weeks and doing some art work to express our thoughts.

RE Lesson Week 6

Art:

Who was Piet Mondrian?

Mondrian was keen to create the effect of balance and harmony in the way he painted. Rather than looking like nature, his paintings explored how colour and line worked together. He changed the thickness of his horizontal and vertical lines and placed them closer together or further apart. For explanation and examples follow the Power-point and then design your own piece of Mondrian inspired art  Art Powerpoint

POP task Use Mondrian’s design as inspiration and change the location of colours and lines for different effects. Experiment with the thickness and location of the lines in your own abstract design in the style of Mondrian.

Today we are going to write our first draft of our invented text. You must write a balanced argument, with points for and against your point, just like in ‘Should Daleks be allowed to live on Earth?’ model text.

It could be on:

Should children have to wear school uniform?

Should we work a four-day week?

Should we look after our environment?

These are just a few ideas…

Remember this is your ‘rough’ version (your ‘thinking’ piece not your ‘scruffy’ piece!). Don’t forget to use the discursive sentence signposts, toolkit and boxing up that we have done this unit. When you think you have finished, go back with your polishing pen and edit. Watch these short videos to remind you how to edit. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zmbr47h

Human Circulatory System – Functions

In Science this term, we have looked at the human circulatory system and we have also recapped the skeletal and digestive systems. This week, we will end the term with a look at Healthy Lifestyles. The aim of the lesson will be to recognise the impact of diet and exercise on the way our bodies function. Follow the PP presentation. Not all the additional resources will be needed. Children will choose what to focus on during the lesson.
