Today we are continuing with the new unit on money, in our Power Maths book. As so many of you have now got your Maths books, it would be great to see you following the same work at home. We are doing lesson 2  in class, as we did some extra practical work with money last Friday. The title of the lesson is “Converting Pounds and Pence,” pages 72-75

Spellings  –  Can you include these words in sentences, using your best handwriting, make sure your letter formation is correct when writing your spellings?

 

English – Today we are continuing our work on report writing.

Your task today is to box up the model-text , in other words, to look at each section of our text and note what is included. This will help us with writing our own reports.

Read through the text again and have a go at filling in the boxing up using the questions to help you.

Dictionary Detective – use a dictionary to look up the definition of your words and record them.

 

English – Can you come up with some other creatures we can develop a report on?  Write a list and send it to me.

Today in class we are doing lesson no. 4, pages 80-83. As so many of you have now got your Maths books, it would be great to see you following the same work at home.

Spellings – use the look, cover, write, check method to practice your spellings:

Write a silly sentence for each of your words.

 

English – We are going to look at some of the great sentence starters in our text, words like Amazingly, Surprisingly, Sometimes. Other words could be

In addition,  Also,  Additionally,  Furthermore, Occasionally. If you are not sure what any of these mean, look them up in a dictionary. 

Have a go at writing the next two paragraphs:  Where do Giants live? and What do Giants eat? Remember to include some of the words listed above to make your writing even better. Don’t forget your commas!

Write your spellings in alphabetical order from A-Z, then from Z-A.

 

English Children to plan their own report,  on a planning sheet: home-learning-boxing-up Follow the structure of the Trolls text, but you may want to write it on Giants, Unicorns or even Chinese New Year,  as examples.

Remember to use the sub-headings/ questions.

As we are celebrating Chinese new year in class, we will do somethings differently today!

English – Children to write their own report, following your plan from Thursday.  I want to see:

  • punctuation,
  • headings,
  • use of alliteration,
  • adjectives,

Remember to write using your best handwriting and see if you can join your letters. Please send me your work so that I can see the hard work you have done over the last couple of weeks.

Topic – We are going to look at dragons today.

Similar to what we are doing in English, you are going to make notes about Komodo dragons. Komodo dragon sheet You can use your research to write your own report.

Art – This week in art we art going to attempt to draw a mythical dragon. Watch this video and keep pausing it so that you can watch how to draw a dragon step by step. You could also add a background for your dragon does it live in the mountains, forest or in a castle.

Computing – Last week, most of you should have completed the ‘Erase All Kittens’ coding game. This helped you understand the importance of how we use code to create different things or complete tasks in a game. As an extension, you began looking at Minecraft Coding to guide your avatar to a location to complete a task.

This week, I want you to continue with Minecraft Coding, but you have been given FOUR different coding games to choose from! Try and complete as many as possible to test your coding skills:
