Blakeney’s Week Ahead Monday 8th Feb
Blakeney’s Week Ahead Monday 8th February 2021
General Notes
These are the remote learning notes for the week. As you read through, you will notice that the daily lessons follow the same timetable that we use at school in the morning.
You should ensure you try to complete the morning work every day. This is the minimum that is expected.
In the afternoons, you will not need to follow the usual timetable at school. Instead, you can choose which subjects you want to work on each day from Topic, Science, Computing, RE, Art, Music and PE. The instructions for these afternoon lessons are at the bottom of the blog. You should choose at least one of these subjects to work on every day. However, the choice is yours as to which subject and when. If you wish to follow the school timetable as before, please feel free to do that.
Please send your work in for me to check, either as a photograph or an attachment. Send it to a.black@gf.kwestacademy.com
Keep in touch and please do contact me for support if you find anything unclear, confusing or difficult. I am just on the end of the phone or I can email a reply if you prefer.

10.15 – 11.15 – English Today, we are boxing up our model text and planning our own discussion text. See Tuesday slides on the powerpoint.
11.15 – 11.45 – Reading Comprehension (Find and Copy practice).
The text today is non-fiction and is about the Borneo Orangutan. You saw this text last week but we were practising a different skill then. This week, you will practice your ‘find and copy’ question skills. Remember, when doing ‘find and copy’ questions, you must copy words/phrases exactly the way they are written in the text. You cannot alter the word/s in any way – that includes the spelling. Also, if you are asked for one word (not a phrase/group of words), then you must give only one word. Good luck!

10.15 – 11.15 – English – Today we are going to start innovating our own discussion text using the Draft Guidance, the model text, the boxing up plan, and the toolbox for effective discussion texts. You can go straight to the Draft Writing Guidance provided on the Monday links and follow the instructions there.
11.15 – 11.30 – Spelling practice
Do the homophone match-up worksheet:Activity Sheet Homophone Matching Pairs
Working with a partner, cut out all the cards. Place them face down on your desk. Take it in turns to choose two cards. If you match up a homophone with its correct definition, keep them! The player with the most cards at the end of the game is the winner! If you don’t have anyone to play with, match up the cards and stick them on a piece of paper for revision. You will be able to use the sheet for your test on Friday!
11.30 – 12.00 – Reading Comprehension (Find and Copy practice)
The text today is a narrative fiction extract and it is about a rat and a mouse. With this text, you will practice your ‘find and copy’ question skills. Remember, when doing ‘find and copy’ questions, you must copy words/phrases exactly the way they are written in the text. You cannot alter the word/s in any way – that includes the spelling. Also, if you are asked for one word (not a phrase/group of words), then you must give only one word. Good luck!
Skills Quiz 2 : Skills Test 2
Lunch
Afternoon lesson/s: Choose 1 or 2 of the afternoon subjects at the bottom of the blog.

Friday
8.45 – 9.00 Tackling Tables
9 – 10 Power Maths (Unit 9 Lesson 8 – subtracting fractions)
Oak Academy Teacher-led recorded lesson (optional): In this lesson we will explore subtracting fractions involving fractions greater than one using fraction bars and number lines to build our understanding. https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/subtracting-fractions-2-71k34d
Break – snack
10.15 – 11.15 – English – Today you will finish the draft of your discussion text. Follow the Draft Writing Guidance sheet for the Friday lesson (paragraphs 3 and 4)
11.15 – 11.45 Reading Comprehension work (Find and Copy practice)
The text today is narrative fiction again and it is about a man on a quest/adventure. Good luck!
Additional note: If you spot a word you don’t understand, don’t panic! Use your new ‘vocabulary in context’ skills to help you get a sense of the meaning. If that doesn’t work, don’t worry; you don’t have to know every single word to understand a piece of writing.
Skills Quiz 3: Skills Test 3
11.45 – 12.00 Spelling test – ask someone to test you on your word list. For this, they will need to use the words in a sentence for you to know which homophone they want you to write. Or they could give you a definition from the Match-Up sheet you did yesterday and you must listen to the definition and write the correct spelling for it from memory.
Lunch.
Afternoon lesson/s: Choose 1 or 2 of the afternoon subjects at the bottom of the blog.

Science: Human Circulatory System – Functions
In Science this term, we have looked at the human circulatory system and we have also recapped the skeletal and digestive systems. This week, we will end the term with a look at Healthy Lifestyles. The aim of the lesson will be to recognise the impact of diet and exercise on the way our bodies function. Follow the PP presentation. Not all the additional resources will be needed. Children will choose what to focus on during the lesson.

Computing: Touch Typing
Children will continue to brush up on their touch typing skills – this will be invaluable to them as they move forward in their education. Typing at speed will really set them up well for all those assignments they’ll need to write in secondary school! Go to this website: https://www.typingclub.com/
It’s an absolutely brilliant way of learning to touch type by having fun. Many of you have tried it before and you love it so – enjoy!
RE: In this lesson, we will be finishing our Philosophy unit by reflecting upon what you have learned over the weeks and doing some art work to express our thoughts.
Art (Who was Piet Mondrian? )
Mondrian was keen to create the effect of balance and harmony in the way he painted. Rather than looking like nature, his paintings explored how colour and line worked together. He changed the thickness of his horizontal and vertical lines and placed them closer together or further apart. For explanation and examples follow the Power-point and then design your own piece of Mondrian inspired art (see POP task below) Art Powerpoint
POP task Use Mondrian’s design as inspiration and change the location of colours and lines for different effects/ Experiment with the thickness and location of the lines in your own abstract design in the style of Mondrian.
Music (Signed Performance): Create a signed song.
Objectives:
- Compose and perform melodic signed song.
- Create signed movements that communicate meaning and emotion of verses and chorus.
In previous weeks, we have studied how performers sign songs rhythmically with hands, bodies and expressions in order to communicate a message. This week, you will choose another song of your own and create signed movements of your own to effectively convey the message of the song. If you did one last week, that is very good experience that you can put into use today – getting better at it!
You can perform the song to an adult or sibling. Alternatively, ask an adult to film it and send it to me! I would love to see some.
PE: Choose from this wide variety of games!
