Happy New Year Heacham and Snettisham!

How are you all?

We should have been having this conversation in person, but we are back in remote learning because of lockdown.  It’ll be ok, we just have to carry on.

Snettisham children, Mr Sellars will be back soon, he’s fine, but I said I’d do the blog for both of us for now.  If you have any problems, please email me, and I will sort it out for you.

Now, over the last few weeks I’ve put work up every week for you to do, and I’ll do the same over this lockdown as well.  Hopefully you have landed here because your parent has seen the email that has all of the instructions in it!

Every day will have the same routine as we will have in school for those children who are in school. (and if you are going to have to be in school, please make sure you have done all of the learning for Tuesday and Wednesday or Thursday might be tricky!)

Let’s have a look at this week and what we’ll be doing.

Timetable

0840-0900 – register and reading

0900-0940 – phonics and spelling

Register and reading

Reception – your guided reading book has been allocated on BugClub and it is ‘Dig and Tip’.  Try reading it yourself to an adult, rather than relying on the ‘read to me’ button!

Year 1, your book is King Pip and the Troll.  Again, try and do the work yourself!

Reception – Well done for reaching the end of phase 2!  You are starting Phase 3.  Your phonics will be on here as a video for each day, from Geraldine the Giraffe, and then on EducationCity in your homework section.  You could also see what things you can find in the house that start with the right sound, just like Geraldine does.

Reception’s sound today is ‘j’

Year 1 – You’re still working through phase 5.  We started the /or/ phoneme before Christmas, but I think we’ll start there again because Christmas was just too exciting!

Year 1, your phoneme today is /or/, the grapheme for it today is /aw/

The first video is the overview of the different graphemes that we will look at this week.

This is today’s grapheme /aw/

Reception – Have a look at your bugClub and you will see that you have access to the daily work that we would have done this week, on number bonds within 5.  I’m also going to put an Oak Academy lesson on each day for you so that if you can’t follow the BugClub for any reason, you can still look on here for a maths lesson that matches what we are doing.  You could even do both if you want to!

Oak Academy

Year 1 – you are finishing off the work on shape.  I have allocated it all to you in BugClub and you can also access your workbook in there as well, which will enable you to do the work.  There is followup work on EducationCity for you as well.  For shape, I’m not going to do OakAcademy, but if you want me to send you some links, let me know on email and I will.

What did you do in your holidays?  Or even, what did you do yesterday?  It doesn’t need to be anything that exciting!  Remember to start with the when, and then use first, next, then, after that, finally, with a summing up sentence at the end.

Here is mine.

“Yesterday, I went to school.

First, I undid the classroom door and put my bags and coat away.

Next, I put my lunch in the fridge.

Then I turned on the computer and began to answer my emails.

After that, we had a meeting and it was nice to see all of the other teachers, even if it was only on a screen!

Finally, I put up a display.

It was time to go home – it had been a busy day!”

This powerpoint has the week ahead of work on it, as an overview.

Year 1, you have a challenge!

This is the 100 high frequency words list.  Have a look at it with an adult – how many words can you read? How many can you spell?  How many do you need to learn?  Talk to your adult, set yourself a target for learning a few more each week, and email me so I know what your target is.  I’ll be sending out ideas to help you learn your spellings later in the week.

Who else is in the story?  Have a chat with the people in your household.  Can you retell the story between you?

Any problems, let me know s.cook@gf.kwestacademy.com

I’ll be emailing parents and guardians to see how things are going, if you need any log ins or any help, please let me know.  There will be extra sessions coming up, but I thought we’d start with numeracy and literacy for today.

Take care (and wash your hands!)
