The other half of the class will be assessed today, so look around inside your house for things to measure and add up.  Ask your grownups – how do they use adding up in their lives?

Look at the EducationCity learn screen “Allsorts Addition” for some examples of different number problems.

literacy

Today we are going to listen to a soundtrack of sounds and see if we can guess where those sounds are being made.

Try some of the games on here and see if you are right!

Watch the video, and make a list of the words that have the ey or y grapheme, then see if you can put them into a sentence.

maths

Today we make our first steps into subtraction.  We’ve done a lot of addition, and so it’s time to go back the other way.

In class, we’ll be using Power Maths, but if you’re at home,  you won’t be able to (your book will be in school!) so here is the same kind of lesson from Oak Academy.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/subtracting-by-partitioning-crr3jr

literacy

Something else that we can change in the story is the main character.  This story has a sleepy bumblebee in it.  Does it have to be a sleepy bumblebee?  What animal could we change it to? What adjective could we use to describe that animal?  How does that change the story.

My animal is a bat

My bat is grumpy.

How would having a grumpy bat change the story? Would he live in a hive?

I don’t think he would.  I also don’t think he’d be getting up on a sunny day like Mr Bumblebee did.

One dark night, Mr Bat woke up, and looked out of his cave.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t sleep because all the parrots were flying.

What would your animal be?

maths

Today, Oak Academy are teaching you to subtract numbers by counting back.  We’ve done a lot of work on numberlines, so I know you know how to draw them and how to use them for addition.  Now we’re going to use them for subtraction.

Science

Although electricity isn’t usually a year 1 topic, we’re going to be having a look at how it works.

Let’s start here!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zqb7tyc

Why is it important to be safe when we are using electrical appliances?

Topic

In topic this week we are looking more closely at how we know what we know about the Great Fire of London.  A lot of our information comes from Samuel Pepys, who wrote a diary at the time.  We’re going to be looking at an extract from his diary and seeing what information we can find from it.

GFOL Resource 3 diary extract

Here is the sheet that you will need to complete this task. Email it back to me when you are done.

RE

In RE, we are going to be looking at the celebration of Diwali.  Here’s an Oak Academy video to help you.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-understand-why-some-people-celebrate-diwali-65k64d

After that, we are going to look at how people celebrate Diwali, and at Diya lamps.  Here are the videos to help you.

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-understand-how-people-celebrate-diwali-6mvk6c

https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-create-a-diya-lamp-crw3ed

How do we know that this is a celebration? What does it have in common with the other celebrations that we have looked at?

Rainbow Challenge

Here is our rainbow challenge sheet for this week.

If you’re at home, see what you can do!

Collections Table

This week is Louis Daguerre’s birthday, so we are looking at cameras and photographs.  If you would like to email in a picture for us to print out and put on our collections table, that would be lovely – the older the better!  The children will be taking lots of pictures this week and exploring how we access them and can change them.

Homework

Heacham and Snettisham Homework Grid

Don’t forget, you have EducationCity and BugClub work to log into as well.  Well done to Freddie, Corrine and Ava-Rose for working really hard on EducationCity, and Ava-Rose and Leia for reading a LOT of books on BugClub.

Any problems, let me know s.cook@gf.kwestacademy.com

Take care (and wash your hands!)
