Welcome back Winterton. Here is week beginning Monday 2.11.20!
Hello Winterton
I hope you have all had a lovely half term break and are feeling relaxed and energised! We have a lot to do before Christmas and only 7 weeks to do it in. This week’s work is below. There are lessons to watch, video clips to look at and learning activities to complete. There is also work set on Education City (Winterton wb 2.11.20) for you to complete. (You should all have your ED.City logins. If you haven’t, let me know and I can email it to you.) Don’t forget you also need to practice your tables using Tackling Tables site.
This is what we will be looking at this week:
Literacy:
The above pictures are ideas only – feel free to think of your own monster.
We are going to write our Monster Report at the end of the week, but there are a few activities you need to do first if you are going to produce the best report you can.
Here is a video clip that explains how to write a report. It tells you to use sub-headings, but I don’t want you to do that. I need you to use topic sentences instead.
I have also found a clip from a real journalist on how she structures a report. She talks about why a plan is important and how important proof-reading (checking your work) is.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/english-ks1-ks2-how-to-write-a-non-chronological-report/zvbtscw
Watch these and then do the activities below. You will need all this knowledge to write the best report you can!
Monday 2.11.20
First you need to think about formality – how formal your report needs to be. Formality activity
Tuesday 3.11.20
Then we need to think about how we will begin each paragraph. (We mentioned this in class.) Topic sentences activity
Wednesday 4.11.20
Now we can start to think about ideas we might want to use for our own invented monster. New Ideas activity
The next thing to do is to draw our monster and annotate our drawing. (Remember ‘annotate’ means to write notes around our work. We need to make sure we use our ideas – that we wrote in the last activity – to tell us what to draw. It is that information we use to annotate our text.) Remember to colour your drawing to bring your monster ‘to life’!
Thursday 5.11.20
Then onto our plan (the ‘map’ for our writing). Plan your text

Friday 6.11.20
Now follow these guidelines now it’s time to write your monster report and you have everything you need to produce a top quality information report on your monster.

Here is the original text Swamp Monsters model text and the vocabulary that we looked at Match the vocabulary to its definition in case you need them.
Make sure your work is neatly presented using your neatest handwriting. Remember you can include pictures and diagrams if you wish.
Work hard and I look forward to reading your amazing, inventive Monster Report!
Your spellings this week are ‘ambitious synonyms’: (can you remember what a synonym is?)
aggressive
hostile
awkward
obstinate
desperate
frantic
disastrous
calamitous
marvellous
spectacular
You may have to look these up in a dictionary, or use Google, to find the meanings – but think how good your writing will be when you can confidently use these words! When you have written them out neatly, put them into sentences – one sentence for each word.
Here is a reading comprehension for you to do. Year 5-6 Reading extract and questions – Jabberwocky there are 2 different sets of questions – set A and set B. Do them both. This should take you 2 days; one day for each set of questions. You can choose which day you do these on. When you have finished – and only when you have finished – the answers are at the end. How did you do? Use the answers to show you how you should have answered. Don’t worry if you don’t do so well, this is here for you to learn from. Have a go!
Numeracy:

Here is our computing work for this week:
The computing work for this week is here: https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/whatmakes-a-goodwebsite-c9gkcc
This week it is all about exploring and reviewing existing websites and evaluating their content and that websites are created using HTML code.
The lesson is made up of:
• Video
• Worksheet
• Quiz
Our Design and Technology work this half term is about how architecture has changed over time. This week we will be looking at what do we know about architecture over time.
Has the design of buildings changed over time? What do you know about this? Are their any examples of different building styles in King’s Lynn?
Look at video – a brief timeline of architectural style to set the scene – have we seen anything like any of these? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7Eu_ug2ZpY
Which styles do we like/dislike? Why?
Remember we will be using this material in class this week. If you do what you need to each day, you will not fall behind in your learning. If you are well, then remember to exercise everyday to keep fit and healthy. What games will you play outside instead of PE? What will you have for your lunch? Swimming maybe a little difficult though!
Keep safe
Mrs. M 🙂
