Sheringham Monday 2nd November

Hello Sheringham,

I hope you all had a lovely week off and that you are ready to start working really hard again! What an exciting half-term we have lined up; I’m so looking forward to doing the activities with you and learning new information myself. This is a snapshot of what we will be up to in the week ahead:

English

This week we will be beginning to explore texts with suspense. What is suspense? Watch this short video where Mrs Emery explains what suspense is.

Here’s a link to the Oxford Owl website, explore the ebooks and see if you can find any stories that contain suspense. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/

Here’s a link to a song all about Something Spooky, can you learn the song? Think about the expression you use in your voice.

Write your Cold Task – this week in school we will be writing our cold task, our ‘have a go’ task. Have a go at writing a story at home that contains suspense. You could use one of the pictures below to help you think of some ideas.

Sentences – this week we will also be continuing to practise our sentence structure. Recap on the different sentence types and practise writing a range of sentences here. https://teachers.thenational.academy/lessons/to-explore-simple-sentences-cmwp8r

Spellings – We are looking at words that end with ly. Here is a list of words we will be learning:

Reading – We are unable to take reading books home at present. This makes me very sad as I know how much you like listening to stories. Why not have a listen to this story about “The Cave” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtvlYrTzJus&list=PLE5MZB5pedUMQRHw2etfKDkufdGKDiPsU

There are also stories available on this site: https://www.booktrust.org.uk/books-and-reading/have-some-fun/storybooks-and-games/

Maths

I hope you have been keeping your times tables in your head over the holiday. I am looking forward to giving out many more certificates over the half term. We will be looking at x3 over this week in school. Here is a song to help you when learning: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XzfQUXqiYY

This week we will be adding and subtracting a 3 digit and a 2 digit number.

Topic

This half term we will be continuing our topic ‘From Land’s End to John O’Groats’. This week, we will be recapping on the United Kingdom and then move on to exploring the different between physical and human geography.

What can you remember about the UK? Can you remember what the different countries are called? Have a think and then watch this video clip and see if you’ve remembered correctly! https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/geography-ks1–ks2-the-united-kingdom/zhtgrj6

Work through this powerpoint and learn about the difference between physical and human geography. Can you name different physical and human features in the UK?

Looking forward to a great week with you all.

Mrs Moyle
