Snettisham weekly updates
We hope you’ve all have a great week. As usual we have been very busy in Snettisham Class this week and I have included our weekly planning document so you have a snapshot of the learning we’ve been getting up to together. This will also be on Tapestry too. It’s so great to see that so many of you have been activating your accounts over the last week.
I recognise that for those of you that have used Tapestry before, that there might not be as many observations of your children as you have seen in previous settings. This is due to our use of the ‘Planning in the moment’ document that you can see below – where we follow the interest of all children and the ‘Focus Child’ sheets you will get once a term with observations specifically of your child. We favour this method as it means that we spend our time developing the children’s next steps in the moment and use this time to evidence is much development as possible with quality observations, as opposed to spending time writing a quantity observations on the iPads when we could be spending valuable time with the children. Please do not hesitate to speak to us for more information on this. We’re very grateful for the feedback we’ve had so far.
Communication and Language
We will be learning the meaning and BSL actions for the following words:
- Go – https://www.signbsl.com/sign/be
- The – https://www.signbsl.com/sign/all
- To – https://www.signbsl.com/sign/are
- Into – https://www.signbsl.com/sign/they
Ask your children to show you the Word Rap. They LOVE it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=428l9PIED_I
We will be practising our Ball Skills. You could use the game below to help your child. Coach M walks thought throwing and catching an egg which links to our discussion on global warming and it’s impact on animals (such as Penguins)
Personal, Social and Emotional
We been discussing Global Warming and Recycling. They really loved the story ‘The Messy Magpie’. Maybe you could support your child to recycle rubbish in your home.
Below is me preforming our T4W story (I know – great photo! 🙄). They children have all learned the action now and are great at retelling the traditional tale of The Three Billy Goats Gruff. You could invite them them to retell the story but change the goats to another animal and the troll to another monster. Spend this time talking to them about how their characters might feel at key points in the story. They could act this out by pretending to be the animal and showing facial expression to show how they’re feeling.
In Phonics we will be learning the sounds f, ff, l, ll, and s.
Next week we will explore counting in groups of two using bead strings and pictures, in order to find the total. Have a look at the lesson from Oak National Academy to support with this. We are using the language ‘more, fewer and the same’ lots in our play.
Understanding the World
Next week we are still looking at the importance of recycling and being kind to our planet. This could be a fun activity to play with your children to test their knowledge of recycling below or, as I mentioned before, asking them to help you with the recycling at home. They’ve been keeping we in check if we make mistakes!
Expressive Arts and Design
Next week we will be preparing for Halloween. Below is a video you could show to your child of a pumpkin growing from seed and a video on easy pumpkin carving which they could do at home. Normally I would discuss Trick or Treat safety in our carpet sessions but I have removed that from our planning due to the current climate to allow you to discuss it with your children if you decide it necessary.
I hope you have had a great week and look forward to seeing you after the weekend.
