Hello Thornham Bubble
It has been another fantastic week for all children. Again we have been very busy making a start on all subjects in our curriculum.
We have started ‘Power Maths’ where we have been counting in tens and looking at numbers to 10 (yr1) . We have been learning to read the written words and matching to the numeral. Children in year 2 have completed some Pixl maths questions for addition and subtraction and we have started looking at numbers to 100.
During our English lessons we have started to find out about astronauts ready to start learning our Talk 4 Writing text ‘ Diary of an Astronaut’. In phonics we have started to recap on phase 3 sounds to make sure we are confident sounding out and writing the phonemes. This week we have revised qu, sh, ch and ng.
Children have now been allocated a reading book which is staying in school at the moment. We aim to hear everyone read at least once a week in addition to our daily Guided Reading sessions.
On Thursday we had our first PE lesson of the year! In glorious sunshine we practising our ball skills. Well done to those who remembered to come to school in our PE kit.
In music we listened to ‘A lovely Day by Bill Withers’. We listened to the rhythms and found the beat. We decided we all liked the music.
I have sent home spellings for you to read and practise spelling- please help your children and encourage them to have a go at spelling them. Here is a reminder of the words.
Here are a few photos from the week! Our Gratitude tree – we wrote down things we are thankful for.
Counting and orders in tens.
Over and Above – 4 children were awarded over and above this week (a note has gone home!)
This is awarded for a range of reasons, for example, a child this week completed his maths work and was very helpful to another child by showing the maths working wall showing examples to help him.
Class Reward – We have been able to colour lots of our 50 squares to enable us to have a class reward when all are completed!
Have a great week!
