Wells Class – Home Learning Grid 29-6-20

Hello Wells Class,

I hope that you are well and have enjoyed the weekend. What have you been up to? I enjoyed watching Norwich play against Manchester United (even though they lost), going for a walk in the woods and reading some more of my book.

Please find attached this weeks Home Learning Grid: 29th June 2020 year 5 and 6 HLG NEW

In English, we are continuing the theme of poetry with ‘The Cave of Curiosity’ by Pie Corbett. A copy of it is here: The Cave of Curiosity You will be writing out common noun places eg mountains, towers and also abstract nouns eg anger, fear (things you can feel but can’t actually see) to help you create phrases, such as “The tower of fear…”

For your spellings, instead of the spelling lesson on Thursday, please choose 10 words from either the Y3-4 Spelling List Y3-4 Statutory spellings mat or the Y5-6 Spelling List Y5-6 Statutory spellings mat to learn during the week using Look/Cover/Write/Spell/Check as we would in class. Remember, if you have a login to Lexia please use this for your reading and spelling skills as well.

If you would like to do some Short Burst Writing, then my Bubble are going to use this picture from Pobble 365:  https://www.pobble365.com/uprooted/   It would be great to see some of your writing from this!

In Maths, we are moving on to Unit 14 L1-4 where you will learn all about recognising and drawing parallel and perpendicular lines, as well as identifying and classifying regular and irregular polygons. Remember to keep practising your Tackling Tables and the Problems of the Day from White Rose from the HLG are also really good to get you to think logically.

For Topic, we are researching if Pirates can all be classed as outlaws and looking at 2 famous pirates in detail. Please find additional information in Powerpoints about Sir Francis Drake and Grace O’Malley here: Sir Francis Drake 1 Grace O’Malley 1  Your task is to write a persuasive letter to Queen Elizabeth 1st explaining your point of view – here is a persuasive letter writing checklist to help structure your work: Persuasive Letter Writing Checklist

In Science, we are continuing our work on Endangered animals and why they are endangered, plus what is being done to help them. Mrs Harris has done an example of the work to show you here: Polar Bears Week 5   I have found the World Wildlife Fund website which is very informative to help you: https://www.worldwildlife.org/species/directory?direction=desc&sort=extinction_status

For Art, you will be continuing the optical illusion work and draw a 3-D hand. Please follow the link from the Home Learning Grid: https://www.tes.com/lessons/NxdPS1b-3-ZRFQ/optical-illusion-drawings

Please remember to stay physically active – Joe Wicks is now doing his PE sessions on a Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, but you can always use some of his previous sessions on his YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCAxW1XT0iEJo0TYlRfn6rYQ

There are also 3 different PE tasks you can choose from on the Home Learning Grid, as well as doing exercise like riding your bike.

Finally, please email me your work by Friday so I can see what you have been learning and share it with your class mates on this website.

Take care and stay safe,

Mr Stratton
