A big virtual welcome back Holkham Class! (01/06/20)
Good Morning Holkham,
I hope you all had fantastic and relaxing half-term, enjoying the quality time with your family and the glorious sunshine. You can find this weeks ‘Home Learning Grid’ here… Year 3 and 4 Home Learning Grid. Remember that is on the front page of the website should you need to find it again quickly and I’m at the other end of an email if you have problems opening the PDF. Please don’t feel you must complete all of these activities, they are just there to give you and your grown ups inspiration for learning opportunities. That being said, please try and do as many as you possibly can!
This week you will be reading and internalising (memorising) a new model text called ‘The King of the Fishes‘.
- Firstly, I would like you to consider: If you had 3 wishes, what would you wish for and why? Please write this in your English book alongside the full date and the title ‘Cold Task’.
- Next, I want you to read the new model text ‘The King of Fishes’, think about each part of the story and look for the definitions of unfamiliar words using a dictionary or Google.
- After that, I would like you to list what you like and dislike about the new text and then think of any similarities, or questions, you’d like to answer, between this and other types of story telling (books, films, TV shows) you have come across before. You can use this grid ‘Likes, Dislikes, Similarities and Questions‘ to help you.
- Lastly, I would like you to draw a story map of our new text. Look back on my pervous blogs or in your books to remeber excatly what a stroy map should look like. Here’s one to help you if you get struck.
Power Maths books 3C and 4C follow the next lesson in sequence as they build on your previous learning each day. You can find the textbook here:
Year 3 – You are going to be working continuing to work on angles and the properties of shape. Remember to use the angles song from our Maths Meetings. Watch the video here to remind you (I think this teacher is a bit of a better singer than me).
Year 4 – You are moving onto statistics. Start off by watching the video below on pictograms and then using the link above to access the textbook with your grown ups.
We are going to start learning about Matter. You can begin with this video…
Now you know a little bit about Matter, now you can learn about it’s different ‘states’.
Topic (Rotten Roman)
This week we are going to be learning about Boudicca. Please see the videos below. Mrs Emery has uploaded a great song to help you learn all about this Celtic Worrier. Boudicca was a Celtic queen who led a revolt against Roman rule in ancient Britain. This week I would like to you research her and create a poster of key facts or notable events in her life. then you can share this with me and your family.
I have uploaded more learning to Education City into a folder called ‘Holkham Home Learning 01/06/20′. I will keep the ’15/05/20 folder’ open so that you can still access anything from there you haven’t yet completed.
Don’t forget to give your Tackling Tables and Twinkl’s Times Table check a practice and learn your Year 3/4 Statutory spellings too. Remember to look, say, cover, write and check each one until you get super fast and accurate. The focus spellings are on your under Monday’s English on the Home Learning Grid.
As you are reading for 10 minutes every day with your grown ups each day your grown ups challenge you with comprehension questions at the end of each page (comprehension question can be found in previous blogs or online)
If you would like additional reading comprehension resources you can find some here… Reading Booklets
A note for grown ups
There has been a lot in the news about school’s reopening to specific pupils. Greyfriars Academy will proceed with an extended opening, following Government guidelines from Tuesday June 2nd 2020. As of yet, the opening does not extend to Year 3/4 pupil unless they are part of a key-working family. Please contact the school office if you would like anymore information on this.
With the above in mind my blogging a video messages may change slightly in the coming weeks. Blog post will be on a Monday and Friday, with a short video message include on a Friday only. However, you will still receive your child’s ‘Home Learning Grids’ as usual on a Monday morning. Please note it might take me slightly longer to reply to E-mails enquiries.
It was lovely to speak with those of you I manage to contact last term. I will be doing my best to call again as soon as possible for another catch up. These are just quick and informal check ins to see how you are doing and if there is anything else I can do to support you with home learning. I look forward to speaking with you all again soon.
I hope you all have a fantastic week. Remember, as always, you can email me if you get stuck and I will always do my best to help you as quickly as I can. Hopefully I will able to see you all soon.
Have great week Holkham,
