Last week we focused our mathematical minds on learning about and understanding multiplication.  By the end of the year the children need to be able to

*recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10
multiplication tables, including recognising odd and even numbers
*calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and division within
the multiplication tables and write them using the multiplication (×),
division (÷) and equals (=) signs
*show that multiplication of two numbers can be done in any order
(commutative) and division of one number by another cannot
*solve problems involving multiplication and division, using
materials, arrays, repeated addition, mental methods, and
multiplication and division facts, including problems in contexts

We went through it on the carpet first, and made a poster for the washing line.

 


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

We started with adding over and over again, grouping cubes and counting – and then drawing our results on the table!

 

 

 

 

 

Last week we focused our English on reading like a reader, not like a robot!

We talked about what good readers do, and how we can improve what we do.  We watched videos of people reading the same book as we are reading, and then we videoed ourselves reading, and talked about that and how we could improve.  It’s interesting to see yourself doing something!  We discovered that we have to keep our mouth above the book, we have to think about what we are reading and listen to ourselves read, and that reading to someone else and listening to them read is not only fun, but it’s a good way to improve if our friend reminds us of what we need to do.
